The following events took place at the Red Gallery during the Team Rex show:
Saturday 8th August at 8pm:
“高貴文雅，但無用” - Classy but useless…
“Noble & elegant, but without purpose”
This event will be held inside the gallery if bad weather.
Cecilia W.yu explores the deep connections between graffiti as an art form and the 6,000 yrs old Chinese pictorial language. The great chinese calligraphers used to hang around the Imperial Court but were often described as “Classy but useless!” (a common description of their works by bureaucrats and illiterates alike)…..but 6,000 years later every surname and every word of the Chinese language has evolved from their scribbles.
Introduction by Decima Francis (MBE) + Gilda (performed by Claudia Vau).
Followed by a short multimedia visual arts performance installation with wearable art by Yu titled: ‘FOR YOUR EYES ONLY…’ for the Iprotest Arts Charity London 2012.
